The
purpose of Harvest House is to help people become spiritually and
physically whole.
Harvest House began in 1993 when
cofounders Gary and Linda Tatu sold their home in the suburbs to buy and
refurbish a derelict city church. The organization has two paid staff
people, the director of the baby and children's outreach program, and a
Catholic Charities Service Corps volunteer. All other jobs are
performed on a volunteer basis.
Harvest House provides meeting
space for non-profit and community organizations. Up to 2000 people use
the building each month for activities such as support meetings, block
clubs, bible study, scouting and spiritual retreats. The main building
is handicap accessible.
Through the Baby and Children's
Outreach program Harvest House is the largest supplier of FREE baby
items, baby and children's clothing in the tri-county area. 200+
agencies refer clients to this program. In 2006, 4,515 children
received items from Harvest House.
In 2003 Harvest House opened a
second location, the Harvest House Ministry Center at 175 Jefferson
Avenue, Buffalo. The building currently is the site of Good Neighbors
Health Care, a free health facility offering primary care,
sonograms, spiritual counseling, eye exams and glasses, chiropractic
care and Dental. The New Hope Education Center offers classes to adults
wishing to further their education or prepare for a better job.
Plans for the
Harvest
House
Ministry
Center
call for a $3 million addition to expand current services and move the
Baby and Children's Ministry to 175 Jefferson Avenue.
